Welcome to the Technology Support Index (TSI) presented by the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The TSI is designed to provide school districts with models for an efficient and effective technology support system based upon best practices in nationally recognized school districts. With the TSI framework and self-assessment tool, school districts can appraise the quality and efficiency of their current technology support program and learn about possible improvements they can employ. Based on your district's unique profile from the TSI online assessment, you will identify strengths and possible areas of improvement in the four distinct domains of the Technology Support Index equipment standards, staffing and processes, professional development for efficient support, and enterprise management. After completing the TSI online, you will receive a technology profile and action plan for increased efficiency and improvement for your district. The TSI is not intended to be a comprehensive tool for all components of technology in a school district, but rather focuses specifically on technical support in an organization. With the TSI school districts are able to benchmark themselves to both stimulate internal conversations regarding support, to set local parameters and targets for support systems, and to track progress over time. It also serves as a starting place for understanding effective technology support systems and how particular strategies can work together for effective support. It is important that before a set of technology support strategies are selected that instructional technology objectives are clearly defined and articulated. The strategies described in the TSI should align with and directly support these instructional objectives. Before using the TSI, three questions should be considered.
