The first domain of the Technology Support Index (TSI) is equipment standards. It is important to note that there is a direct relationship between equipment and software standards, and the number of staff required to support technology. Ironically, while school districts have extremely limited technology support staff, many school districts also have a difficult time implementing standards. The total cost of ownership (TCO) will drop dramatically and support satisfaction will increase by merely implementing comprehensive equipment standards. In addition to establishing standards, TCO is impacted when equipment is maintained beyond its reasonable life. The equipment standards domain addresses hardware standards, software standards, peripherals, warranties, donations, equipment cycling, and more.
